Join the latest trend: the acupuncture facial – a safe, natural alternative to Botox.

Read what Westchester blogger StacyKnows has to say about our acupuncture facial.

How does it work?  Facial acupuncture revitalizes the skin by encouraging the free flow of energy to the face.  It brings fresh blood to the face and helps the lymph system to drain away waste and toxins. It also stimulates the cells to lay down new collagen fibers under wrinkles and frown lines, thereby filling them in and improving skin tone.  Acupuncture will stimulate the facial muscles, to firm up facial contours and combat sagging.  After a few sessions, the eyes brighten, skin feels firmer, lips become plumper, and blemishes vanish. Not only will you look good, but you will feel good as well.

Feeling good when you look in the mirror or when people compliment you is like stepping outside on a fresh sunny day. It really does revive the spirit and fill the Heart with joy. And as we know, the Heart "manifests in the complexion".

These are a few of the conditions that can be addressed:
·    Puffy eyes
·    Dark circles
·    Drooping eyelids
·    Wrinkles, frown lines
·    Sagging facial muscles
·    Dry or combination skin
·    Age spots & discoloration

Acupuncture:  What Happens During a Treatment Session?

Your first session begins with a full assessment of you and your symptoms to determine the best points to include in your treatment. I use very fine sterile needles, thin as a hair - acupuncture needles are much smaller than the more familiar needles used for injections, and they are solid, making them much smoother so you barely even feel them. Patients usually only feel a slight pinch when the needle enters the skin, and most people enjoy the slightly 'heavy' warm feeling they get, as they relax on the table.

Acupuncture points are chosen specifically to address the concerns you have – whether it’s dark circles or puffiness around the eyes, or lines and wrinkles – and also to increase blood flow to the face and stimulate collagen production to enhance the condition of your skin, and to tone the underlying muscles that shape your face.  Some of these points are on the face, while others are located on other parts of your body.  Your overall health and constitution will determine which points are chosen. In this way, while we are attending to the outside (what you see) we can use some additional acupuncture points (usually on the arms and legs) to work on the inside. By working holistically in this manner, you are addressing your physical appearance as well as the underlying factors which influence it – namely your general health, which, in turn, determines the health and appearance of your skin. Patients generally feel very relaxed after treatment and positive results are often felt after just one or two sessions.

What Makes Our Acupuncture Facial Different?

Most cosmetic acupuncture focuses on the acupuncture itself. Our acupuncture facial includes acupuncture PLUS a complete signature facial given by licensed esthetician Carol Rosales, who has had years of experience doing facials at Elizabeth Arden, Red Door Spa, Ritz-Carlton, Caudalie Vinotherapy Spa of Paris in NYC. You will receive a moisture-drenching, toning facial that begins with cleansing, toning and exfoliation, followed by steam, extractions if needed, therapeutic massage, and ending with a firming hydrating masque that tones and tightens your skin.  This is a value-packed 90 minute session (total time for acupuncture and facial) that leaves you feeling like you have been truly pampered.

Can Everyone Have Facial Acupuncture?

There are certain cases where caution is warranted: including pacemakers, thyroid problems, blood disorders, damaged blood vessels, or general hypersensitivity. However, it may still be possible to use some massage and alternative techniques in such circumstances. If you have concerns we can discuss these before your first treatment. Before beginning a series of treatments, the acupuncturist will determine your state of health and devise a program specifically for you, based on your objectives.

Does It Hurt?

Acupuncture is mostly a painless procedure, especially when you have chosen a practitioner who uses gentle technique – some points may be felt as a slight mosquito-bite sensation on insertion, while others may not even be felt at all. After the needles are in place, you may feel a spreading sensation of warmth or other relaxing feelings as the tension releases and your energy begins to flow more smoothly. You may even feel more energetic after the session. The effects of Chinese medicine are gentle and free of side effects when administered by a trained professional.
