Chinese herbal medicine has been used for thousands
of years because of its effectiveness in treating
various illnesses with a lower risk of adverse
reaction or side effects than pharmaceutical drugs.
It treats the root of the problem, relieves
symptoms, and restores normal body functions –
allowing the patient to feel better and more vital
while living a healthier life.
There are approximately 5,000 potential ingredients
in the pharmacopeia of the Chinese herbologist;
about 500 of these are commonly used. These consist
mostly of flowers, barks, leaves, roots, seeds,
stems, fruits, berries. They are mixed in different
combinations to create powerful, healing recipes
that are carefully balanced according to energetic
principles.
Herbology is traditionally one of the more important
modalities utilized in Chinese medicine. Each herbal
medicine prescription is a cocktail of many herbs
tailored to the individual patient. Unlike western
medications, the balance and interaction of all the
ingredients are considered more important than the
effect of individual ingredients. A key to success
in Chinese medicine is the treatment of each patient
as an individual.
The
formulas are given in either pill or tea form, and
should be taken before meals with warm water. The
formulas are safe and effective under supervision.
One should not try to self-medicate with
single herbs and should always consult a
practitioner before taking any Chinese herbal
formulas. |
