“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.”

Henry David Thoreau

What if you had the ability to keep your body functioning at its optimum?  You can ------------ REALLY!  Achieving good health is a result of what you eat, finding a balance between work and play, getting enough sleep, and reducing your stress level.  For some of us, that seems pretty difficult to achieve. It can be done – if you break it down into small steps, you can change your life in significant positive ways.

Modern lifestyles create a great deal of stress on our bodies:  physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Some of us may respond to prolonged exposure to stress by feeling emotionally anxious, others may catch every respiratory “bug” that comes along, some may develop chronic digestive discomfort, or high blood pressure, or thyroid disease, or diabetes, or frequent urinary infections, while others lose their drive to live life to its fullest – (they may feel tired all the time, no motivation, nothing makes them feel happy).

Traditional Chinese medicine has a "macro" or holistic view of disease. For example, one modern interpretation is that well-balanced human bodies can resist most everyday bacteria and viruses, which we are exposed to all the time, and yet, we only become ill from them on occasion. In a more holistic view, microbes are opportunistic, and therefore, infection would occur only in the presence of an underlying imbalance of some kind – one would not become sick, even when exposed to microbes, unless there was such an imbalance. Therefore, traditional treatment would target the imbalance, not the infectious organism.

It is essential to the healing process to be treated as a whole person - your overall satisfaction with life is important. There is evidence that stress management and good mental hygiene positively affect healing and health. Holistic practitioners share information with their patients and seek to find ways to achieve optimal health, not only by treating disease and illness, but by preventing illness and by helping patients live well with chronic disease.

The primary focus in Chinese medicine is health, and health is easier to maintain than to regain. You do not have to have a specific illness to benefit from acupuncture. But if you have started treatment here because of illness, once you are feeling better, you may want to continue treatments once a month or once a quarter for health maintenance so that your condition does not recur or because you want to remain healthier.

Patients who receive regular, ongoing acupuncture treatment for health maintenance and health promotion often experience:

  • Being sick less often and recovering more quickly;
  • An improvement of vitality and stamina;
  • The ability to take care of their own health more effectively;
  • More harmonious relationships with others;
  • A reduction in long-term health care costs.

Custom wellness plans are designed for your own unique needs, with consideration for your constitution and your current state of health.  This will be based on your health history, and what your current symptoms are, as well as pulse and tongue diagnosis. Your plan may include any of the following components: acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, Eastern nutritional counseling, lifestyle counseling, stretching and exercise, aromatherapy, Reiki, Tui na medical massage, as appropriate. Each person’s wellness plan will be different, to match the unique needs of that person.

The most important aspect of your plan is that YOU are an active participant in the healing process – both of us will have our own roles in making this process successful. To gain maximum benefit from your treatment, it is important that you take care of your health by eating nutritious foods and by getting adequate rest and exercise.  The more you actively engage in your healing process, the more effective your treatments will be.  Your questions and thoughts around this topic are a welcome part of your treatment sessions.  Consider me a resource – if you have questions, or want more information about your program or other resources, I am here to help you – my interest is to help you achieve success in meeting your goals.
